Why Your Wireless Charger Is Slow and How to Speed It Up

A slow wireless charger is usually a case, alignment, or adapter problem, not a broken pad. Diagnose the real cause and fix it in minutes.

Quick answer

Most slow wireless charging comes from three things: a thick or metal-backed case, a misaligned phone, or a weak wall adapter feeding the pad. Remove the case, centre the phone on the coil, and use a charger that meets the pad's input rating. If it is still slow after that, the pad itself is the limit and a magnet-aligned charger is the sensible upgrade.

Check the case and the coil alignment first

Wireless charging pushes power through the back of your phone, so anything between the phone and the pad steals efficiency. Cases thicker than about 3 mm, cases with magnets, pop-sockets, ring grips, and metal plates all add distance or interfere with the field. Take the case off and charge for ten minutes: if the phone warms up less and the percentage climbs faster, the case was the problem, not the pad.

Alignment matters just as much. A phone sitting half an inch off-centre can still show the charging icon but only draw a fraction of the available power. On a flat pad, line the centre of the phone up with the centre of the pad and avoid nudging it. If your phone keeps sliding, a stand-style charger that holds the phone upright removes that variable entirely.

Match the wall adapter to the pad

A wireless pad cannot output more than the adapter feeding it. Many people plug a pad into an old 5W phone plug or a laptop USB port, then wonder why a 10W or 15W pad crawls. Check the pad's input requirement and use a mains charger that meets or exceeds it. If the pad needs 9V/2A and you feed it 5V/1A, you get slow charging no matter how good the pad is.

Cable quality counts too. A thin, damaged, or charge-only cable can drop voltage before it reaches the pad. Swap in a known-good cable and a mains charger with enough output, then test again. This is the cheapest fix and the one most people skip.

Understand the phone's own limits

Your phone decides how much wireless power it will accept. Many iPhones cap Qi charging well below the speeds you see on wired charging, and Android phones vary widely by model. If the phone is hot, in a case, or above 80% battery, it will deliberately slow down to protect the battery. Charging from 20% to 50% will always look faster than topping up from 80% to 100%.

Software also plays a part. Some phones throttle wireless charging when the screen is on, when a game is running, or when the phone is also connected to Bluetooth and GPS. Put the phone down, lock the screen, and leave it alone for a realistic test.

When to stop troubleshooting and change hardware

If you have removed the case, aligned the phone, and used a correct adapter and cable, and the phone still charges painfully slowly, the pad is the bottleneck. Older or very cheap pads often run at low wattage and have poor coil coverage. A magnet-aligned charger locks the phone into the optimal position every time, which removes the alignment guesswork that causes most slow-charging complaints.

For iPhone users, a magnet-based 2-in-1 charger also lets you charge earbuds on the same base, so you are not juggling two cables. If you mainly charge overnight, speed matters less; if you need a top-up before you leave the house, alignment and adapter output are the two things worth fixing today.

Slow wireless charging diagnosis

  • Symptom: phone charges but very slowly: Most likely the case is too thick or the phone is off-centre on the coil. Remove the case and re-seat the phone so its centre lines up with the pad's centre. If speed improves, the pad is fine; keep the case off or switch to a magnetic charger.
  • Symptom: pad feels warm but battery barely moves: The adapter or cable is probably underpowered. Check the pad's input rating and use a mains charger and cable that meet it. Use the highest-output port on your charger, not a laptop USB port.
  • Symptom: still slow after case, alignment, and adapter checks: The pad's own wattage or coil design is the limit, or your phone throttles wireless charging by design. Stop troubleshooting and choose a magnet-aligned charger or charge wired when you need speed.

Products that solve the common causes

  • Juice MagTec 2-in-1 Wireless Charger: Juice MagTec 2-in-1 Wireless Charger is a Qi-compatible magnetic charger that locks the phone into place and can charge two devices at once, including TWS earphones. The magnet removes alignment error, which is one of the most common reasons a wireless charger feels slow, and the second charging area covers earbuds without another cable.
  • Triple Juice Port 3.4 Amp Mains Charger Plug: Triple Juice Port 3.4 Amp Mains Charger Plug has two 1 Amp ports and one 2.4 Amp port, aimed at iPads and tablets. The 2.4 Amp port is the one to use for a wireless pad that needs a stronger adapter, and the extra ports let you charge other devices from the same plug.
  • Juice ECO Apple Lightning Braided Charging Cable 2m: Juice ECO Apple Lightning Braided Charging Cable 2m is a 2 metre braided Lightning cable made with eco-friendly materials. A longer, durable cable lets you place the pad where you actually use it and replaces a worn cable that may be dropping voltage before it reaches the charger.
